Ashton Hudson

Howzit!

I’m Ashton Hudson, a MSc Electrical Engineer by training, a Software/Data Engineer by trade, and a South African working in beautiful Cape Town.

I’ve been working on a number of data based systems for over 5 years. I would consider myself a generalist, with a propensity to dive deep into curious topics. I took a strong liking to software development in my Engineering degree, and have immersed myself deeply into software systems ever since. I enjoy working on the entire stack of things, with experience in writing web frontends (React), Django/FastAPI backends, DevOPS using Terraform and SaltStack, all using Unix machines.

I am my most comfortable using a command line (zsh) to run things, Vim to edit files, and emacs bindings to edit free-text.

One of my recent topics of interest has been building time-series based applications, and recently launched a price tracking applications using TimescaleDB and Django. I chose to make this application as simple as possible and will possibly use it as a platform to deploy more time series based applications.

I’m an avid rock climber, with a slight preference for bouldering. Check out my 8a.nu profile.
